At AkhuRa Temple, we embrace and celebrate the rich tapestry of cultural diversity within the African American & Indigenous communities. Our foundation rests upon the recognition that many of us are a beautiful amalgamation of various cultures—African, Indigenous American, European (specifically Celtic), Asiatic (including connections to Dravidian and ancient Chinese cultures).
Our approach to spirituality is rooted in a syncretic cosmology that acknowledges the interconnectedness of diverse cultural and spiritual traditions. We honor the mosaic of ancestral backgrounds that shape the identities of our community members. By recognizing and integrating elements from African, Indigenous American, Indo-European/Celtic, Asiatic (Dravidian and ancient Chinese), and "Christian traditions", we provide a holistic framework for spiritual growth and enlightenment.
Join us for our weekly prayer services every Sunday at 10am and our monthly community potluck on the first Saturday of every month at 6pm.
NUBIAN KEMETIC AKAN YORUBA
From our African heritage, we draw upon ancient spiritual practices that connect us with the wisdom of our ancestors. This includes rituals, symbols, ceremonies, modalities and cosmological perspectives that have been passed down through generations.
CHEROKEE YAMASSEE CHOCTAW TAINO
The Indigenous American influence in our cosmology emphasizes a deep connection to the land and its spiritual significance. We incorporate teachings that foster a sense of stewardship for the Earth and an awareness of our interconnectedness with nature.
SUMER INDIA CHINA
Our acknowledgment of Asiatic roots, including Dravidian and ancient Chinese cultures, adds a layer of depth to our syncretic approach. We delve into the ancient wisdom of these cultures, understanding their contributions to spirituality and personal growth.
INDO-EUROPEAN IRISH SCOTTISH
The European Celtic influence contributes a mystical dimension to our practices. You can explore the symbolism, mythology, and sacred rituals of Celtic traditions, integrating their unique perspectives on the spiritual journey.
LIKE MIND AND SPIRIT...
There is a spiritual path that does not come from a foundation of culture, but moreso universal law and consciousness. This path transcends the constructs of separate identity.
